my side of the story

Last Thursday, I received a text from my college friend Amor asking if I’ll be available on October 4 to watch the West Side Story at the Meralco Theater. I was hesitant coz I don’t have a budget for a thousand peso ticket (poor me…). But then she told me we had tickets already (woohoo!). She was supposed to watch it with another friend of hers but for some urgent reasons, she couldn’t come. God really knew I needed some treat. I was super excited. That would also be a chance to update each other and have a post celeb since the last time we saw each other was in November last year, a few days before the board exam. Everything was set and off we went to enjoy our Saturday night out.

At four in the afternoon, while on my way to Robinson’s Galleria to meet her, I saw dark clouds building up to where I was heading. (Oh no, not now please!) I was seated in front of the van and saw how the rain poured heavily as we were approaching EDSA. It was a hot sunny day when I left the house so I didn’t bother to bring my umbrella. (oops, wrong choice!) I was just thinking on how to get off without being wet when suddenly, passengers from the back were telling the driver to stop because smoke was filling the van. (Ahh, now what?!) The van stopped and we got off at one of those MMDA waiting area which, by the way, has proven to be of no use in case of heavy rain. Anyway, the smoke was coming from the engine. I overheard other passengers saying that good thing, it didn’t explode. Explode?! Why didn't I think of that? That possibility didn’t even come close to my mind. All I was thinking then was how bad I would look when I get to Galleria, soaking wet and smelling like engine smoke (vanity first?). I won’t ride in that van again. I rolled up my pants and ran towards the first bus that stopped. Traffic was building up so I got off again and ride the train. After that long journey, I was still able get to my destination neat and dry. No mud stains on my pants and still smelling good. (Thank God!) After I shared that experience with Amor over a sumo meal and unlimited rice, we went on to watch the play.

We arrived at the theatre a bit early. Due to excitement, we forgot that we each have our assigned seats on the ticket. We were worried thinking that we might end up watching it from afar if we come in just in time. Haha! Anyway, our assigned seat was in the middle of the theatre, with a very good view of the stage.

The show was really good, but since I’ve watched other plays that were fairy tale type, maybe I did expect a lot from it… a grandiose production complete with costumes, make-ups, props, and stage designs like those fairy tale musicals that really amazed me. Of course West Side Story was different and still, it was a great show after all. I soooo love the crying moments. Oh well, I wouldn’t elaborate much of the story so as not to pre-empt the others from having their own taste of the story like I did with one of my friends who’ll be watching it yet (Soooo sorry Ade, I mentioned one of the highlights to you).

My Favorite…
Characters: Tony, Maria & Anita
Song: Somewhere (There's a place for us Somewhere a place for us...)

Scene: Tony & Maria's mock exchange of wedding vows
Line: “Love is not enough, in this world, they won’t let us be”

We spent the rest of the night at Morato with our endless stories and dozed for a while before going back home again.

Looking forward to our next night out Am. I miss you! I miss Lei! I miss Us! Hope she can join us again one of these days. Till then. ;)
