who cares?!

It happened on one of my jeepney rides on my way home. the driver pulled over to the side to pick up passengers. a woman in her mid 30s got in, carrying in her one arm a 1-year old baby and holding a 3-year old child on the other hand. following her were 4 more children, i think ages 5-8 years old. I didn't actually notice them until another passenger beside me remarked "ang dami nyo naman" smiling as she helped the kids sit comfortably. I knew that no offense was meant by that comment but when the mother heard it, she hit back with a grouchy face and a cranky tone saying "ano naman ang pakialam mo?" I immediately turned to see the reaction of the woman beside me. everyone else on the jeep were also waiting for her reaction. she was puzzled, the squint tells that she got embarassed. I got irritated by the mother's response and i wanted to say Hey! she was just helping?! what's your problem?! but I kept quiet anyway.
This is a simple scenario that happens almost everyday in our lives. we may not be able to notice but it happens a lot of times. there are instances when we wanted to help, but the fear of getting the same kind of reaction as the mother did, hinders us from reaching out. We care... we wanted to. but some people just don't want it... they feel that they don't need it. Ano nga ba ang pakialam ko?! I'll just mind my own business and continue to be the apathetic person that I am. Who cares about these people?!
Still, I know should. I wouldn't be here if nobody cared.
I must.
Even Jesus cares.
